Galveston Island offers everything in a resort destination…
beautiful accommodations, rich heritage and historic architecture, extensive shopping, breathtaking views of Galveston Bay, and dazzling Gulf of Mexico beaches. Galveston’s festivals, special events, wide range of arts and entertainment, and attractions are enjoyable for islanders and tourists alike.
There is a wide selection of lodging on the Island, but we recommend strongly that you stay at the Workshop venue’s hotel for the best and closest lodging to the Workshop. “Best” means substantial discount to regular rates given to Workshop participants, and also one of the finest hotels in the country. Do not make ANY reservations, however, until you’ve received your email confirmation letter, which will include the (required) Reservation Code necessary to get the big discount! If, however, you desire to stay elsewhere, or for airport or ground transportation information, please go to the Galveston.com website.
Galveston is located along the Gulf of Mexico just 60 minutes south of the Houston metropolitan area. The infamous Galveston causeway links the island to the mainland on the northwest end of the city, with a toll bridge on the western end of the island and the Bolivar ferry on the east end of the city.
Galveston is a small magical island, 32 miles long and less than three miles wide as its widest point, most known for its historic 19th century Victorian neighborhoods, small town southern charm, and the Seawall – a ten-mile long concrete barrier designed to protect the city from storm surge.
Tourist attractions include Moody Gardens, the Lone Star Flight Museum, “The Strand” downtown historic district, many historical museums and mansions, and miles of beach front. The Lone Star Flight Museum & Texas Aviation Hall of Fame house one of the finest collections of restored aircraft and aviation exhibits in the nation. Moody Gardens features a 1.5 million-gallon aquarium pyramid, a 3-D IMAX theater, tropical rainforest pyramid, an IMAX Ridefilm Theater, and one of the finest golf courses in Texas.
Below is an excellent video from Galveston Tourism on what visiting couples can expect to experience on Galveston Island if you add on some vacation days after your Workshop. The hotel will gladly discount these additional days, especially if you request the discount (or more) with your reservation. We highly recommend this idea of ‘extra R&R’ after the wonderful, but intense, educational experience, unless it is truly impossible. Couples rave about the post-Workshop ‘2nd honeymoon’ experience, and how it cemented the closeness found in the Workshop with some much-needed FUN together!
